Ruha letter stencil, a multi stylistical typographic system workshop (EXD15). Ruha was initially developed as a teaching tool for graphic design students to learn from experiment letter shape as a significant in graphic communications. Afterwards, it imposed itself as an autonomous project, materializing into a product for all the community.
The need to create a pedagogic tool for the teaching of typographic design gave rise to the RUHA project, a stencil designed for the exploration of letter forms that also shares the purpose of the construction of messages. RUHA evokes the sound and geometric rigidity of a landmark development in the history of typography, the Romain du Roi, a font commissioned by Louis XIV of France and developed by a committee appointed by the Académie des Sciences. Tipos das Letras (TdL) is an independent digital type foundry created in 2013 by Aprígio Morgado, Ricardo Santos and Rúben Dias. This project, based in Lisbon, born from the RUHA Stencil, and aims to create, produce and commercialize some of its typographic products.
